A clade is a group of animals which comprises an ancestor and all its descendants – for example the subfamily Homininae, is a clade which includes humans, gorillas, chimpanzees, and extinct relatives (all hominids that arose after the split from orangutans). The Homininae is incouded in the Hominidae, a more inclusive clade which includes this, and the orangutans/their extinct relatives.
