Gideon Mantell

Gideon Mantell (1790–1852) was an English doctor, palaeontologist and geologist who discovered and described Iguanodon, Hylaeosaurus, Pelorozaurus, Regnosaurus (four of the five dinosaur genera known during his time), and Telerpeton (Triassic reptile). Mantell is an author of the first dinosaur (Iguanodon) skeleton reconstruction, and many palaeontological publications focused on the Mesozoic of England. He was a skilled fossil collector, writer and public speaker.
