Authigenic Cementation

A type of preservation that involves soft sediment cementation by iron and carbonate compounds (e.g. FCO3 – siderite); resulting replicas of surface features including moulds and casts (e.g. Mazon Creek). In exceptional circumstances three-dimensional preservation can occur (e.g. Crock Hey Pit, Coseley).
