Charles Darwin

Charles Robert Darwin (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882), the English naturalist, was the first person to suggest a mechanism for evolution. In his 1859 book On the Origin of Species he proposed that all forms of life have share common ancestors, and suggested that the branching pattern seen in evolution – and responsible for the appearance of new species – resulted from natural selection.
