Ediacaran (Period)

The Ediacaran period is the final subdivision of the Precambrian (635 to 542 Ma). The period takes its name from the Ediacara Hills of South Australia, where the complex multicellular fossils of the Ediacara biota were found. The period was ratified as an official geological period in 2004, making it the first new period to be established for 120 years.
