Scanning electron microscope

An SEM, or scanning electron microscope uses a focused beam of electrons to produce a highly magnified image of the surface of a sample. The beam scans, or rasters, over the area of interests, and the electrons interact with the sample’s atoms. Various signals result that allow images of a sample’s surface topography and composition to be created.
