Meiosis

This is a special type of cell division, seen in eukaryotes, and central to the production of gametes (a cell that fuses with another during fertilization in sexual reproduction, e.g. sperm or egg), and thus sexual reproduction. During the process chromosomes are recombined, shuffling the genes, and four genetically unique haploid cells are created (a haploid cell has a single set of chromosomes).
